Meet the founder and host

Hi there! I’m Jim Cooney, an award-winning director, choreographer, and educator based in New York City. Whether I’m working with an artist in a show or in a classroom, my mission is to help them reach their highest potential.

With over 20 years of experience, I’ve helped performers, directors, choreographers, and more build robust careers in every facet of our industry from Broadway to motion pictures and television, concert dance, circus, and just about anywhere a performance takes place.

My curriculum-building and teaching resume includes serving as Faculty Advisor for Broadway Dance Center’s Full-Time Educational Programs, as well as short and long-term Visiting Artist appointments at universities and schools around the world.

In addition to currently being an active theater maker, I’ve run a web design company servicing clients from artists to Fortune 500 corporations, and I also spent several years as a group fitness instructor for Equinox, one of America’s premier fitness companies.

Mix all of that with what I’ve gleaned from having parents who are financial advisors, it’s no surprise my approach uses a 360-degree view encompassing all areas of an artist’s life!
